Interior doors and furnishings with the Pantone 2020 color of the year

Classic Blue: 3 color matching ideas

The Pantone Color of the Year for 2020 is Classic Blue for interior doors. The announcement arrived in recent days and, a bit like last year, it did not fail to cause discussion. Just as in 2019, the year of Living Coral, the choice implies a precise message and wants to be a symbol of the themes that will be the most popular in the coming months.

In this article we will try to better explain to you what kind of color it is, and above all how you can use Classic Blue to make your own bespoke interior doors.

Classic Blue is the 2020 Pantone Color of the Year

Every year, the US company Pantone indicates what according to its experts will be the color that will mark the coming year. This year, as anticipated, it was Classic Blue, a particularly deep and relaxing shade of blue. On the official Pantone website, in particular, it is possible to read some of the characteristics of this shade:

“This intense shade of blue inspires calm, confidence and a search for togetherness, and highlights our desire to create a solid and stable foundation upon which to build a new future as we prepare to cross the threshold into a new era.”

The Classic Blue 19-4052, then, sends out a rather clear message: in a historically tormented and uncertain period, with the end of the first twenty years of the 2000s, the search for connections and unions between people will be a fundamental theme.

Matching the color of the year 2020 to doors and furnishings: three solutions

Beyond the possible messages related to the Pantone 2020 color of the year, what interests us at Porte Italiane is understanding how this specific color can be combined with interior doors and window frames. For this reason we offer three different color palettes designed in conjunction with Classic Blue. Three different combinations that allow you to make the most of this specific shade, combined with both interior doors and furnishings.

First combination: warm colors

The first proposed color combination sees Classic Blue alongside a cherry red and dark yellow, light black and gray. In this case, the use of a blue internal door helps to break the harmony given by the warmer shades, especially red.

A bit like what happens in the case of white doors or black doors, then, in a combination of warm colors, Classic Blue can be used as a focal point inside a room, a way to indicate the way out to another environment . The effect is even more marked if the walls have a soft colour, in this case grey. The use of light black also allows you to further highlight other furnishing details, even if to a lesser extent than blue.

Second palette: cold colors

In this second combination, the Classic Blue of interior doors and furnishings plays a less dominant role than the warm color palette. The sense of this union, then, is all linked to the play of shades between blue, light blue and light blue. Ideal for creating a relaxing environment entirely dedicated to comfort, this combination could include the insertion of a blue internal door alongside a light blue wall. The two shades of green proposed, on the other hand, should be used extremely sparingly, so as not to break the visual harmony that is created thanks to the three remaining shades.

Ideal for embellishing a children's room, but also a bedroom, this combination sees in Classic Blue not a focal element, but a solid point of reference in an environment that sees its strong point in harmony.

Third palette: neutral colors

The third palette concerns the combination of Classic Blue and the so-called neutral colors. These are shades of black and white that usually allow you to obtain a traditional, classic style, or in any case capable of appearing well in any room of the house. Choosing to paint the walls white, for example, allows you to install both Classic Blue and black interior doors. In both cases, the effect will be to break the monotony, also creating a valuable frame effect thanks to the frame of the window.

The use of more or less light grays, on the other hand, allows you to create greater harmony. It could be the hue of some appliances, such as those in the kitchen.

In general, the combination of Classic Blue and neutral colors tends towards the creation of a relaxing and comfortable environment. This is because blue, in itself, is one of the cold colors par excellence, and combined with white it could bring to mind snowy or nocturnal scenarios. The presence of black, however, helps to break the possible cold atmosphere.
