Where space allows, surface-mounted sliding doors are practical, competitively priced and attractive. Unlike pocket doors, they need neither an expensive pocket frame nor any masonry work for installation.

The leaves of surface-mounted sliding doors are always visible. As they slide along the side walls of the opening, they furnish and personalise the room. Hung from a track housed inside a pelmet, they move easily along the wall. To prevent the leaf from swinging, a floor guide is recessed into the floor at the bottom.

Technical Features of Surface-Mounted Sliding Doors

Surface-mounted sliding doors are made with 44 mm thick panels. The perimeter frame is in finger-jointed fir, kiln-dried and treated against woodworm, while the core is a resin-impregnated cardboard honeycomb with 22 mm cells. The facing is in flat-edge thin laminate on a 4 mm board, providing strength and durability. The pelmet, laminate-faced on one side, adds to the elegant design. The aluminium track, with an 80 kg load capacity, is fitted with ball-bearing carriages for silent sliding. The carriages have Teflon wheels and ball bearings for smooth, noiseless movement.

Installation

It is installed in 4 phases and 18 steps. These are the points not to skip:

Phase 1The right panelAs wide as the opening plus 10 cm, as high as the opening. It can slide right or left.

Phase 2The track at h + 6.5 cmWith a door 210 cm high, the sheet gives the holes at height h + 6.5 cm. The wall plugs for the track are not included.

Phases 3–4Brackets, guide, cover stripBrackets centred 10 cm from the edges, height adjustable by at least 1 cm; finally the floor guide and the cover strip.
