How to install a flush-to-wall door
The aluminium frame is fixed into the wall and disappears under the finish: that's why the door is installed while the wall is being built, not afterwards. These are the steps of the FIP installation sheet for the flush-to-wall door, for plasterboard and for masonry.
- 2 wall versions
- 12 steps each
- 6 mm off the floor
Three things that apply to both
Installing in plasterboard
The door goes into the structure before the boards: it is plumbed, screwed in, and then the wall is closed.
- 1
Prepare the structure around the door
With the plasterboard profiles.
- 2–3
Identify the model: pull or push
The sheet shows the two models seen from above. From here on the steps are the same.
- 4
Place the door with its frame in the opening 6 mm
Balance the door with a wedge, leaving 6 mm off the floor.
- 5
Plumb the door
And start testing opening and closing.
- 6
Screw the frame to the structure
With self-drilling screws, into the plasterboard structure.
- 7
Screw the boards onto the edge of the frame
The boards are fixed directly onto the edge of the frame.
- 8
Complete the whole wall
Close the wall around the door.
- 9
Fill between frame and plasterboard Tip
The sheet recommends POLYFILLA F200 ready-mixed filler as an excellent product.
- 10
Paint both sides together Tip
It is recommended to paint both sides at the same time.
- 11
Adjust the hinges
The hinges are concealed and are adjusted with an Allen key. There is a guide to adjusting them.
- 12
The finished result
Door and wall in the same plane, with no architraves.
Installing in masonry
The frame is set in with the anchors and keeps its spacers until the cement is dry. Then the wall is skimmed flush with the frame.
