How to install a hinged door
From checking the subframe to the trims, in the right order. These are the steps of the FIP installation sheet for hinged doors, explained one by one.
- 3 work phases
- 17 steps
- 7 tools and materials
Three phases, one after the other
The order matters: the handle goes on before the test, and the test comes before the foam, while corrections are still easy.
Before you start
Tools at hand, size checked, key found: then you can begin.
- Tape measure
- Gloves
- Drill driver
- Polyurethane foam
- Screwdriver
- Hammer
- Silicone gun
- 1
Get the tools ready
Keep all the tools in the list above within reach: foam and silicone are needed at the end, but it's better not to have to look for them with the door already in place.
- 2
Check the internal size of the subframe
Before installing, check the internal size of the subframe. For the measurements to take when choosing the door, see the hinged door measuring guide.
- 3
Find the key supplied
You'll find it attached to the door frame.
The installation
The door goes into the opening, is wedged, fixed and tested.
- 4
Remove the bottom spacer
Take it off before putting the door into the opening.
- 5
Put the door into the opening
The frame goes into the subframe.
- 6
Wedge the door
The wedges hold it steady in the right position while you fix it.
- 7
Fit the handle supplied
Fit it now: you'll need it to test the door in step 12.
- 8
Pull the seal out of the frame
This frees the point where the fixing screws go in.
- 9
Fix the door to the subframe Tip
We recommend placing the screws behind the seal, for a neater installation.
- 10
Screw behind the strike plate Tip
We recommend placing the screws behind the strike plate, to avoid visible screws and get a neater installation.
- 11
Put the seal back
It goes back in its groove and covers the screws.
- 12
Test that it works
Open and close the door and check that it works properly, before moving on to the foam.
The finishing
Foam, architraves and trims complete the job.
- 13
Fill the gaps with foam Caution
Fill the gaps around the frame with polyurethane foam. Handle it with care, as it may overflow.
- 14
Cut the architraves
They must be cut before fixing them with silicone, in the next step.
- 15
Apply silicone behind the architrave
The silicone goes on the back of the architrave, where it can't be seen.
- 16
Snap in the trims
Snap them into their housing.
- 17
Installation complete
The door is placed, fixed, tested and finished.
